PhD Programme

Globalization and Employment

Unemployment is persistently high in many European countries. It is frequently attributed to ´functional deficiencies of labour markets´, even though it is to a large extent caused by shifts in demand and supply in increasingly globalized goods markets and financial markets. The PhD programme Globalization and Employment is therefore centered on research that deals with the employment effects of structural change and macroeconomic developments, such as new technologies, processes of internationalization and system transformation, endogenous finance constraints and various strategies of fiscal and monetary policy.

Work and supervision in the PhD programme emulates - as far as possible - the structures of the (former) standard DFG graduate college and is integrated in the PhD study programmes at the Universities of Hohenheim and Oldenburg, respectively. Coordinators and supervisors are the following professors:

Harald Hagemann  (Universität Hohenheim)

Peter Spahn (Universität Hohenheim)

Hans-Michael Trautwein (Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg)

PhD projects in the programme are partly funded by grants of the Evangelisches Studienwerk. Information about current PhD projects and candidates at Oldenburg is avalaible under www.globalization-and-employment.de
